On top of this solidly media-centric curriculum vitae Kent is bilingual and, more importantly, "bi-cultural," able to straddle the seemingly unfathomable chasm between the Western world and Japan and actually make some sense of it all.
In addition to being a tremendous exercise in site-building, this website is a place for clients and friends to catch up with the author and, assuming the aforementioned author keeps it updated at a reasonable pace, glean clues as to what is going on in the professional and artistic dimensions of his world.
The site will be be used as a gallery and stage from which to share the results of media and artistic endeavors, and as a cyber-soapbox from which to air varied and sundry views, as well as some information that might actually be useful for visitors who take the time to dig.
Yes, I'll admit to having received a few of those. The recognition and approval are much appreciated, as are the efforts of the people who took the time to submit my work for consideration. The awards pictured below are from the STC (Society for Technical Communication).
This site is authored and maintained by media creator Kent Ibbott. Kent offers a broad spectrum of media skills including writing, music, photography, and speaking for narration and broadcast. Writing and creative translation (or "transwriting") have provided primary support for the man and his family for the past thirty years or so, with other abilities being intertwined as individual projects require. Music and photography, in particular, are passions that inform virtually every aspect of his professional and private life. Kent was born in Melbourne, Australia, and currently resides in Yokohama, Japan.
In writer mode, Kent offers expertise in music and sound-related technology that has made his services valuable to a number of leading musical instrument and audio manufacturers for promotion, documentation, and training program development. A strong background in sound and music originates from a father who was a designer and manufacturer of audio equipment in the 50's and 60's, and an innate love of music that led to attendance at the Berklee College of Music in Boston in the mid-70's, with live and studio engagements scattered throughout the ensuing years. Photographic skills and knowledge were acquired both as an amateur in the darkroom under the stairs and in the art director's chair at countless product shoots for promotional material, and those skills are now being applied both in the form of pictorial support for documentation and promotional projects as well as writing for a major camera manufacturer. A seven-year stint as host of a weekly hour-long music and talk show on local FM radio adds familiarity with broadcast production and programming to the mix.
